Megan Hurst – Coach

Age: 27

Height: 5ft 7 ish

Started Ultimate: 2006

Teams Played for: Brighton Ultimate (currently Breezy and Pretty);
GB U23 Women 2010 (Bronze medallists @ Worlds);
GB Beach Women 2011 & 2013 (Bronze medallists @ Worlds, 4th place @ Euros)

Specialities: Being left-handed, handling, sneaking away from defenders.

Day Job: University lecturer

Likes: Running down hucks – because I never get to.

Dislikes: Unnecessary trailing edge catches – watching people do these makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Your Ultimate Achievement?: Beating the Canadian U23 team in sudden death for bronze was pretty epic – we’d had a couple of games where we hadn’t clicked as a team earlier in the tournament so it was great to finally come together in the last game.

An Interesting Fact: Before ultimate ruled my life, orchestra did. I’ve played in concert with Nicola Benedetti and Julian Lloyd Webber, and spent a lot of Easter holidays in a school hall getting shouted at by a conductor (double basses are always late and/or out of tune).

What would you be doing if you weren’t playing Ultimate?: Probably writing articles from my PhD – I think that’s a thing I’m meant to be doing. Or cycling.

Favourite Film: Brick

Favourite Food: Makhani dahl and brown rice

Also Known As: “Mum”, but only by our kids.

It’s 14-14 in the final of Mixed Worlds, you to receive. Who’s on the line with you?:
I probably shouldn’t be on the line – I think that might get us disqualified.
